Singer-songwriter Eric Andersen was always one of my favorite of the early Greenwich Village folkies, with his distinctive, classically pretty-sounding vocals and a romantic vision that -- to my ears at least -- helped elevate him from the confines of the either-Dylan-or-Butcher-Holler "authenticity" pigeonholes of the genre. Like many of his contemporaries -- Joan Baez, Judy Collins, Tom Paxton -- by the end of the '60s, Andersen found himself pushing against the boundaries of the folk scene and several times he went to Nashville to add a more countrified tone to his work.
